Mike Barlow
(1963-)
Mike has immersed himself in the study of the greatest American
and European sculptors such as Proctor, Rodin, Barye and Mêne. He
studied the art in museums of London, Paris, Rome, Florence, Madrid,
Prague, Moscow, St. Petersburg Russia and New York. Classic
masterpieces influenced Mike’s style. Mike solidifies anatomical
correctness into his sculpture, capturing the essence of his wildlife
subjects. Characteristically his dexterous surfaces magnify the true
spirit of his wildlife subjects in a classical context.
"There is nothing in nature more protective of her
babies than a mother bear. I wanted to show the similarities between
human and animal instincts in this piece. The playful, complacency of
the black bear cubs is overshadowed by the mother’s watchful eye."
